Razer revealed a dedicated gaming tablet called Edge on Tuesday, at International CES in Las Vegas. Calling it “a tablet, a PC and a console,” Razer is convinced games like “Battlefield 3” now have a place on mobile devices.

The company has filled the new tablet with a Windows 8 operating system and hardware with third-generation Intel Core processor, NVIDIA GeForce graphics and more memory than any other tablet currently on the market.

The tablet will be offered in two different versions, the basic Edge and the Edge Pro.
The basic Edge will feature an Intel Core i5 processor, NVIDIA GT640M LE graphics and 64 GB of storage. The Pro upgrades the processor to an Intel Core i7 and boosts the storage to 128 GB or 256 GB, depending on the consumer’s desired configuration.  Razer will offer optional accessories to allow players to customize their gaming experiences through hardware attachments. A keyboard dock with mouse port turns the tablet into a more traditional PC setup.
A Gamepad controller attachment can turn the Edge into a hand-held console capable of playing PC games that allow joystick and button configurations. The tablet fits inside the Gamepad with a joystick and buttons on the right and another joystick with a directional pad on the left.  Finally, there is a docking station allowing for multiple controllers (looking like Xbox controllers) as well as USB ports and an HDMI port for hooking up to a television and treating it like a home console.

Both tablet versions as well as all the optional accessories will be available online during the first quarter of 2013.  The company announced at CES that pricing will begin at $999 for the basic Edge tablet, but did not indicate costs for the Pro or accessories.

Asus Eee Pad MeMO ME370T confirmed with quad-core Tegra 3, for $249

We got our hands on the Asus Eee Pad MeMO ME370T earlier today, and Nvidia just confirmed its price and chipset: the 7-inch Android tablet sports a 1280 x 800 resolution and a quad-core Tegra 3 SoC (not a Qualcomm SoC as previously thought). The best part? It’ll only set you back $249.

Flustered with the original Transformer Prime you just purchased? We’d advise you to have a seat. ASUS just took the wraps off an all new Transformer Prime (the TF700T) here at CES, which is presumably designed to rival Acer’s newly-announced Iconia Tab A700. Notably, this guy won’t be an outright replacement for the existing TF201 model; it’s simply an upmarket alternative for those tired of the same specs over and over again. Speaking of, let’s dive under the hood of this one, shall we? It’s a 10.1-incher with NVIDIA‘s Tegra 3 within (1.3GHz quad-core Cortex A9), a Super IPS+ / Gorilla Glass 10.1-inch display with a downright silly 1,920 x 1,200 resolution (watch out, Lenovo!) and 32GB or 64GB of internal storage space. There’s also an 8 megapixel rear camera / 2 megapixel front-facing cam, support for 1080p playback, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, a micro-HDMI port, microSD card reader, a 25WHr Lithium-Polymer battery and a chassis that weighs just over a pound. It’ll ship with Android 4.0.1 onboard (yeah, that’s Ice Cream Sandwich), and will be compatible with the exact same keyboard dock as the existing Prime. Needless to say, ASUS is aiming for the stars with a build sheet like this, and the $599 to $699 retail price points enable you to know it. It’ll land next quarter here in North America, and no, there’s no GPS functionality listed on the spec sheet after the break; though we’ve been informed that this new Prime will come with a new back panel design (pictured after the break) that should enhance WiFi, BT and GPS performance.

Moving onto more diminutive offerings, the Eee Pad MeMO (ME171) that we saw months ago is getting a formal reveal here in Las Vegas, boasting a 7-inch WXGA (1,280 x 800) IPS capacitive touchpanel, a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm 8260 processor, a gigabyte of memory, 16GB / 32GB of storage, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, a 1.2 megapixel front / 5 megapixel rear camera (with 1080p recording), an A-GPS sensor, gyroscope, proximity sensor and a micro-USB port. There’s a 4,400mAh Li-polymer battery reportedly good for some 8.5 hours of video playback, and it’ll be Android 4.0.1 running the show. The unit checks in with dimensions of 7.8- x 4.6- x 0.50-inches (and a weight of 14.2 ounces), and while mum’s the word on price (sadly), it’ll supposedly ship in Q2 to North American adobes.

LG X3 Quad-Core Phone Gets Detailed (Image)

2012 is surely going to the be the year of the quad-core smartphone and so it comes as no surprise that a quad-core smartphone called the LG X3 leaked out today. What is a little surprising is how much detail leaked out. Not only do we have the meat of the the X3′s specifications, but we also have a nice image to marvel over before it arrives, likely at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month.

So what you see here is a phone codenamed X3 that will likely be hitting shelves sometime during the third quarter of this year. Yeah, unfortunately, it’s not going to be here for awhile.

A shame, considering the specifications on board.

LG X3

In addition to the phone’s Tegra 3 quad-core chip from NVIDIA, we also have a massive high-resolution display which sits at 4.7-inches and boasts 1280×720 resolution. It’s also said to have an 8MP rear camera, a 1.3MP front-facing camera, 16GB of internal storage space, and will apparently have a massive 2,000 mAh battery.

All of that will likely come in a form factor that is just 9mm slim, a design that will also supposedly house an NFC chip and a radio for HSPA+, although LTE will likely be in the mix as well.

It’s also probably going to be running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich when it arrives and we hope it does, especially if it’s going to be out in Q3.

The X3 looks to be a very solid device and it has got us excited about what’s in store at this year’s MWC.

LG To Debut Second Intel-Powered Smartphone At CES 2012

lg-intel

“If at first you don’t succeed, try try again.” It looks like LG and Intel have taken that old adage English: Mobile phone LG P500 Optimus Oneto heart, if a new report is to be believed. The Korea Times reports that LG will debut an Intel-powered smartphone at CES 2012, but the bigger question is whether or not the device will ever make it to market.

LG and Intel’s first mobile partnership yielded an Android smartphone running on Intel’s Moorestown chipset for CES 2011, but the device was ultimately scrapped. The reason for its premature demise? As the story goes, the device died because of it’s “lack of marketability.”English: LG Logo

LG’s brass certainly thinks their Intel smartphone is viable — according to one of the Times’ executive sources, the device could be released as soon this March. Still, the original LG-Intel phone was pegged with a 2011 release date, so take those claims with a grain of salt for bow.

Hopefully LG’s second swing at an Intel-powered phone fares a little better — it’s said to run on Intel’s next-generation Medfield system-on-a-chip, and early tests have yielded some pretty impressive benchmarks when compared to NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon MSM8260 SoCs.

Of course, the real competition is yet to come, as nearly every player in the mobile chipset market is hard at work on their next-generation platforms. Intel has a lot of brand recognition when it comes to PCs, but their lack of presence in the mobile market to date could mean that Medfield could drown in a sea of established ARM-based chipsets.

That’s why the partnership with LG is so critical — despite their handset division spending a few quarters in the red, LG is still the number two handset OEM in the U.S. Having a major hardware vendor taking a chance on their new platform could establish Intel as a real player in the mobile space, and right now Intel’s mobile efforts could use all the visibility they can get.

Samsung Galaxy Xcover is built to withstand fire and water

It appears that Samsung will be joining the
squad of Android device ready for rough tumbling, water dunking, and
the rest. This device appears very much to be running a brand new
version of Samsung’s TouchWiz interface over Android and certainly will
be running Android 2.3.x Gingerbread upon release. This device is next
in line right after the recently Tegra 2 confirmed Samsung Galaxy R
which we saw NVIDIA give a hands-on treatment to this morning and will be released very soon.

This Galaxy XCover is aimed at those who like to play rough, it being
the first Android device in the world with IP67 certification which
applies to top protection against dust and temporary immersion (in
liquid substances.) This device, as shown, can handle water, dust, mud,
and being photographed by high-quality cameras in perfect lighting
situations. This device will be rolling out with a scratch-resistant
(perhaps even Gorilla Glass grade) sheet of glass up front of a 3.6-inch
display with a 3.2 megapixel camera on the bac along with a volume
up/down on the left, a power button on the right, and a rubber-covered
headphone jack at the top.

This device is thus far only slated for release in Germany for
October, this being another ominous sign that Samsung isn’t doing very
well with getting devices released here in the United States as the
Galaxy S II has yet to be released, the same being true of the Galaxy R
as well. This device, once released, should be amongst the most rugged
devices we’ve yet seen on the Android market, sitting right alongside
the Casio G’zOne Commando and the Motorola Defy.

The big question here is if this device will aim to fight alongside
the mid-range of Android devices on the market, or if it’ll have higher
aspirations. It all depends very much upon the processor – details about
which we have no clue thus far.

[via Android Community]

You could sink it in water and leave it there for half an hour, drop it on the ground, burry it in sand and throw it in a fire pit. The Samsung Galaxy Xcover is resistant to almost any disaster you could throw its way, and being the first Android powered device to carry IP67 certification is kinda neat too.
The rugged smartphone is powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread, has a 3.65 inch display with scratch resistant tempered glass and a 3.2 megapixel camera with LED flash. Too bad for the US customers as its not slated to be released in the US just yet. The Samsung Galaxy Xcover will arrive first in Germany and the Ukraine this October . There is no word on availability in other markets yet.
